Gillian Bunting, Associated, (BSc, MSc), Cambridge
Studied Geography at the University of Liverpool and then gained an initial six years
practical experience of using GIS for international conservation, through working at the
World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) in Cambridge.
She then studied Conservation Biology at The Durrell Institute, University of Kent
(1996/7) with a dissertation on forest loss in southern Venezuela. This was followed by
six months in Indonesia, helping develop data management systems for the Gunung Leuser
national park and a remote sensing project, assessing the area burnt in the 1997 fire
events.
She then joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in Rome, to work on
the coordination of GIS activities and the development of metadata systems. Now freelance
and based in the UK with a total of 11 years professional experience, she is currently
preparing maps for a popular publication on the conservation of Caribbean Coral Reefs
(“Blue Caribbean”). In addition to English, she speaks some conversational French and
Italian.
